Why everyone needs Reflexology!

For Relaxation! If you have never had a Reflexology session, the relaxation that comes from a healing session is absolutely wonderful.

Stress reliever! One of the wonders of Reflexology is that by working the reflexes for all of the organs, endocrine, spine and back reflexes, endorphins are released and the stress just melts away.

Move those toxins! If you have been experiencing heartburn, indigestion or constipation, Reflexology will support all three by filtering (liver, spleen and kidney) and stimulate organs (intestines) and encourage the elimination of toxins.

Build up your immunity!  If you have a strong immunity foundation, you will have more of chance to fight off pathogens that find their way into your body.

What to expect?

Your first appointment involves a detailed confidential consultation to determine general health, medical history and emotional well-being. This detail allows us to ensure that the treatment is safe for you and to focus on your body's needs. You will be asked to remove your footwear and socks and seated in a comfortable reclining chair. This is followed by an examination and towel cash of your feet.

Your Reflexologist may detect subtle changes in specific points on the feet, and by manipulating these points may affect the corresponding organ or system of the body. The ideal is for you to almost drift off to sleep while still being aware of sensations in the body.

You may experience some sensitivity, which could be due to tension or congestion in the corresponding body area. This is not a concern but an indication that the area needs more attention.

A treatment session usually lasts between 45 minutes and an hour.

How many treatments are recommended?

A course of 6 weekly treatments may be recommended to target a specific condition and restore the body's natural balance. Many clients may find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well-being.

How will you feel after the treatment?

Although the effect of the therapy is unique to each person, most clients note a sense of well-being and relaxation. Some report feeling lethargic, nauseous or tearful, but this is transitory and part of the healing process. It is important to feed back post treatment side effects as it shows how your body is responding to treatment and allows the Reflexologist to tailor a treatment plan specific to your needs.

Will you need to change your diet and lifestyle?

Although you do not need to be on a special diet to get benefits from Reflexology, it is always highly recommended to watch what you put in your body. As many holistic nutritionists would agree, you will find that it is very beneficial to consume as much whole foods as possible. Keep in mind that processed foods are one of the biggest sources of the toxins we build up in our systems; the very toxins that Reflexology strives to rid the body of.

Outside of a whole foods diet, the basics of a good diet always apply. Make sure to drink plenty of water, cut down, or better yet eliminate caffeine, eat a well-balanced diet, exercise and get adequate rest.

The Australian Dietary Guidelines provide up-to-date advice about the amount and kinds of foods that we need to eat for health and wellbeing. The recommendations are based on scientific evidence, developed after looking at good quality research. Learn more

Is there any research on the effectiveness of Reflexology?

Research has shown specific techniques of Reflexology to be effective and beneficial in many ways, impacting a variety of physical and psychological concerns.

Discussion notes were gathered from a year-long research project of 170 Reflexology studies from 21 countries, with findings published in Evidence Based Reflexology Research for Health Professionals and Researchers (Kunz and Kunz, 2008, RRP Press, ebook, 224 pages).

Assessment of the 170 studies showed nine areas of effectiveness for Reflexology application: relaxation, pain reduction, ameliorating of health concerns, improvement in blood flow, aid to post operative recovery, impacts physiological measures such as blood pressure, enhances medical care, benefits mental health, eases pregnancy, delivery and post-partum effects and compliments cancer care.
