Fertility Reflexology

Pre-Conceptual Care

Whether you are trying to conceive naturally or in the throws of an IVF cycle, my treatments will support you on all levels - emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually. At our initial session, we will discuss how best to tailor these to your needs.

Fertility Reflexology helps you to de-stress, switch off your thoughts about getting pregnant and open yourself up to deep relaxation.

Since the potential father will be playing a key role in the process, Reflexology is beneficial to both partners.

Reflexology and a healthy lifestyle, including nutrition and exercise, bring about optimum health, creating the ideal environment for conception and early foetal development.

The usual recommendation is to begin preparing about four months before conception. This gives your body a chance to clear the toxins and benefit from healthier living. Many clients feel that Reflexology has helped them to feel more relaxed and positive about their quest to become parents.

Fertility Issues

Approximately one in eight couples in Australia experience fertility problems at some stage. Different figures are quoted but about one third of infertility cases is caused by a male factor and one third by a female factor. The rest are either a mixture of male and female factors or have no known cause.

Common female factors include age, hormonal disorders, adhesions, blocked fallopian tubes, being overweight and pelvic infection. Male factors include structural disorders, hormonal problems or infection.

Whatever the symptoms, it is essential to consult your GP or Consultant so that all tests can be carried out for both partners, and a diagnosis made regarding the cause of fertility problems.

The Science of Stress and Fertility

While doctors may not know the exact links between stress and fertility, a series of studies shows the impact is hard to ignore. In research published in the journal Human Reproduction, doctors compared pregnancy rates in couples that reported being stressed and those who were not. What they found: Pregnancy was much more likely to occur during months when couples reported feeling "good" -- happy and relaxed. It was less likely to occur during the months they reported feeling tense or anxious. Learn More

Why Reflexology?

Couples diagnosed with unexplained fertility may have been trying to conceive for many months, or years, without success and choose to try a natural approach rather than medical intervention.

Others seek a complementary therapy that can be used alongside conventional medicine such as Assisted Reproduction Techniques (ART), including IUI, IVF, ICSI.

In this instance Reflexology can be used to complement ART, as it works well to balance all body systems, so that the potential mother and father have a better chance of producing viable eggs and sperm, and ultimately a healthy foetus.

Reflexology seems to stimulate and stabilize the whole hormonal system encouraging the body to establish a normal cycle. Hormones in harmony are essential for reproduction and Reflexology can help achieve this balance.

It is recommended that male partners also participate in Fertility Reflexology to aid in sperm and testosterone production.

Stress can also be a factor in unexplained infertility. When the body is stressed the adrenal glands release adrenalin which increases the heart rate and metabolic rate, and at the same time decreases the blood and nerve supply to the bladder, intestines, reproductive system and immune system.

How many Fertility Reflexology sessions should we have?

Regular treatments over 3 cycles (roughly 3 months) are recommended to get your body into its best possible state for conception to occur.

For the first four weeks, two sessions a week are recommended (or weekly) followed by weekly sessions ideally just before ovulation.

Reflexology is a natural holistic complementary therapy that can be used alongside conventional medicine.

It does not claim to diagnose, treat or prescribe.
